Spam email is also called unsolicited bulk email, and it is actually an abuse of electronic messaging systems. Most marketers use this to advertise, recruit, or update products without the ask permission of the email users they are sending their messages to. This consequently annoys email users because these bulk emails tend to flood their inboxes, and most of the time, email users have no control of the influx of these messages.

Spam email has been and is continuously growing in a drastic and ever more progressive manner from the time that it was developed in the 1990s. Now, spammers send messages through the World Wide Web which accumulate to a whopping several millions daily. Laws that oppose spam have been periodically passed. However, some are being eschewed while others only required marketers to use opt in e-mail systems.

Not only does spam annoy the users. More so, it opens the user’s computer to a lot of disadvantageous harm. Because most of these spam messages contain viruses, the virus can also be spread from one email account to another without the email owners knowing about it. Sometimes these virus attachments even destroy email files and folders. Other attachments could even get into the computer’s hard disk and destroy all the data there as well. Another risk involved here is identity theft. Email accounts can be hacked, and once personal files are hacked from these accounts, the spammers can then inflict threats to the email users. There have been reported cases of theft and/or fraud because these kinds of spam emails. Spammers are sometimes skilled enough to obtain access to the victim’s personal data and files. If you’re the owner of a big company, this can be a serious issue.

Several solutions have been developed to counteract these problems. This includes the passing of laws against spam. However, it would always turn out that these kinds of problems are unavoidable, and the spammers almost impossible to penalize. It cannot be stopped since these electronic junks are untraceable and the people behind could actually do it again and again regardless of any punishment implemented by the authorities.

Because spam filters messages are impossible to eradicate, huge numbers of anti spam developers and activists have formulated ways to get rid of spam emails. Email providers have created spam filters that would enable one to get rid of spam emails and trash them immediately. Others include anti spam softwares, disposable emails with numerous spam disabling functions, and the like.

It is now on anybody’s discretion or responsibility to keep spam messages from flooding one’s personal email accounts. There have been several attempts to destroy spam, but the previous efforts have still been wasted effort creating no difference in the number of spam messages at all. The least one could do is to avoid promoting spam simply by being more cautious in opening emails. It is possible that somewhere along the way, someone would actually figure out a way to eradicate spam altogether. It may be soon, but while spam emails still exist, it is best to be extra careful.
